Welcome to this week’s “AFL Footy Action” wrap up. We saw a pretty lopsided affair in this round with most of the results having the winning teams defeating their opponents by very comfortable margins.

On Friday night we saw traditional rivals Carlton and Essendon playing in a crunch match. Both teams were locked with 6 wins and losses and for such an important game a close one was on the cards. However this was not to be as Essendon ran all over the Blues who struggled to deal with the pace of an upbeat Bombers side. Essendon ended up the victors, smashing the Blue baggers by 69 points.

Collingwood continued their good form in recent weeks smashing the Fremantle Dockers by 84 points. Fremantle supports would be extremely disappointed with their team’s effort after pushing Geelong all match the week before. The Pies on the other hand are now looking like a force to reckon with come September.

Adelaide and Sydney fought out a close match with the home ground advantage helping the Crows to a 16 point win. To add more misery to the Swans, whose season is fast slipping away, Barry Hall will come under heavy scrutiny for a jumper punch that could lead to a significant period on the sidelines.

West Coast out ran last year’s Premiers Hawthorn to record a 20 point victory. Lead by an exciting 3 goal last quarter from rookie ruck prospect Nic Naitanui. The second pick of last year’s draft showed that he has a lot to offer the Eagles in years to come. The Hawks on the other hand are having a serious premiership hangover with star Buddy Franklin a shadow of the player he was last year.

In other games the Lions smashed the struggling Melbourne Demons by 55 points. Western Bulldogs were eventual winners against a spirited North Melbourne side recording a 22 point victory. The Saints and Cats juggernaut rolled on with both teams winning their games comfortably. St Kilda crushed the struggling Tigers by 56 points and Geelong accounted for Port Adelaide by 34.

Next week’s “Match of the Round” sees the two undefeated teams in the AFL, St Kilda and Geelong, go up against each other in what could be a preview to this years Grand Final.

Weird or Wonderful

Cheers for now
