By Eaglesafc.com ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 12th, the Ontario Australian Football League (OAFL) held its annual league awards night at the Cool Beer Brewery. This is the night in which the OAFL honors the performers in the league and names its best and fairest player for the season. This year the Eagles very own Ajit Alister was selected as the leagues Best and Fairest, collecting 20 votes and narrowly beating favorite Troy Marsh by 3 votes. "This is amazing" stated an excited Alister. "I think no one saw it coming, even me... There are so many good player this season and many of them were consider favorites." It has been 12 years since a Toronto Eagle has won the OAFL Best and Fairest award, when Arnie Korpela won the clubs fourth in 1997 after Rod Cutler (1995) and Mark Block (1992,1990). "It's an Honor to win this award and I thank my teammates and the club for everything they have done for me this season." stated an elated Alister. Alister polled in nearly every match for the Eagles and took the award in the last round. "I felt I played well in every match this season" comment Alister "But so many of my teammates did as well, so I didn't expect to get so many votes." Troy Marsh, having one of his best seasons, who placed second on the leader board, had nothing but good things to say about his teammate. "I think its fantastic that AJ (Alister) won, he defiantly deserves it" stated Marsh. "I was just happy that the umpires actually gave me some votes this year... As I've always said though, I rather a flag any day." In the other awards for the night, in recognition for their great season 7 Eagles were selected on the 2009 OAFL All-star team. Ajit Alister, Kevin Minaker, Tasos Dimacakos, Matt Bachinski, Aaron Falcioni, Frank Luisser and Troy Marsh were all select on this years team with Marsh being selected as team captain and Falcioni named as deputy vice captain.
